I appreciated that the laces are functional. So often the sides of the boots are sewn to the tongue so the laces are only ornamental. As someone with muscular calves, it's great to be able to adjust the width of the boot in different parts (tighter around the ankle with more space in the calf) so that they fit prefectly.
