About Us
In a world of faceless conglomerates, Joyfolie is a small company offering unique and sometimes even one-of-a-kind items. Joyfolie is a play on words: it is pronounced like the common word "joyfully" but "folie" is the french words for frenzy/madness because children are a joyful frenzy {at least mine are!} It is also based on the quote by Pedro Calderon: "love that is not madness is not love." When we love, we do it with a reckless abandon, a beautiful excess, if you will.
Joyfolie was an accidental company, by no means in the sense that it was devoid of effort, but rather that its humble beginnings were entirely unintentional. I was teaching freshman college writing when I made a simple pair of fabric booties for my then infant daughter. Rapidly, my hobby-run-a-muck company started garnishing national press and order inquiries in quantities that I could not possibly fill on my own. In March 2010, the name of my company changed from Mia Joie {named after my daughter} to Joyfolie. The rest has been a business coming of age story that is still very much in process.
Our shoes began being handmade by our small staff right in our home-based studio. However, exposure of our shoes grew faster than we were able to produce, and our system of offering several dozen shoes at a time stopped working. Customers became frustrated when a thousand people would log onto our website for a few dozen shoes. Right now, the majority of our items are sold out because we are transitioning our products from handmade to manufactured shoes. Because our shoes were inspired by my daughter, who is now three, we are changing our shoes from soft-soled to firm-soled, more durable designs. If you see shoe styles that you like, please be patient with us! We are bringing many of our old designs back, and we expect to grow our inventory dramatically over the course of the next few seasons. This will include toddler shoes size 4-13 and women's shoes as well! Additionally, we hope to eventually offer apparel again under the label Mia Joy, as well as a variety of accessories, ranging from barrettes to tights for little girls and necklaces and brooches for women.
I am excited for the future of Joyfolie, which is growing as fast as I can manage it around the needs of my two lovely and spirited children. It is my hope that you will find items purchased here are not only pleasantly stylish, but also thoughtfully constructed, artfully crafted, and beautifully packaged. Since its inception, Joyfolie has led me to believe that extraordinary things are possible if we are willing to trust in God’s plan for our lives and step forward in the pursuit of our dreams.
